Reviews - I'm always happy with San Diego crowds. If they really like an act they let them know. I didn't expect to see the club so full; I guess they have quite a following here. Doesn't hurt that two local stations regularly play Goldfrapp. Alison looked truly pleased at the great crowd response - huge cheers after every number etc.. Quite a few people in front of the stage were dancing their tails off.
Not everyone's posting set lists from all of Goldfrapp's stops, but it seems like its been shaken up a bit since the tour started in September. We even got Paper Bag during the encore. Encore as in singular. Instead of going offstage and coming back for a second encore with Black Cherry they just ended the first Encore with the song instead. I guess they could tell this crowd would call them back anyway. Alison looked beautiful in the usual black dress. What an incredible figure that woman has! Yikes, she's hot.
Also, incredible lighting for such a tiny stage. The best lighting I've ever seen at Canes. That being said, the sound left a lot to be desired. Nothing to do with Goldfrapp or their mixers/sound people. The sound system at Canes seems to cause havoc for vocalists with wide ranges. I remember catching a local band here and the sound would cut out or get scratchy whenever the lead singer sang high soprano notes at a loud volume. It was even worse when the incredible Nikka Costa performed at Canes. Anyone who's familiar with Nikka knows that she has a fantastic range and can really belt out those high pitches - they were often distorted or simply inaudible with Canes' sound system and the same happened to Alison. Most notably on the "operatic" parts such as the opening and ending of Utopia. I'm sure the sound will be much better at the Henry Fonda in L.A.
Brookville were pleasant - though veering on the edge of background music. Much better than the tour openers last time - the dull Elbow and God-awful George Sara.
Any other San Diego attendees? I saw several people snapping images and video up front.
Forgot to say, along with a lot of inaudible murmers, and the customary "cheers" and "thanks" after certain numbers, Alison asked us what we all do in San Diego. I didn't hear the answers the crowd yelled back, but I'm guessing they must have been something along the lines of sex and drugs judging by Alison's reaction.

- I must agree the lights were great.
I actually saw people avoiding them because they were so sharp they looked like lasers..
i found it kinda odd, to attend a goldfrapp show in SD (I used to live in San Francisco)
SD is like a iowa monster truck rally with a beach...so i was pleased to see so many people there..
I didnt think anyone in this town liked anything but coors light and snowboarding.
anywho..
yeah, the show was good, alison seemed to be having a decent time, I did myself find the opening band to be very boreing, but at least they didnt SUCK
