- INCREDIBLE...I just saw Goldfrapp at the Fillmore in San Francisco...it was JUST what the doctor ordered!
At the end of the show, it was pretty heart-warming: she signed a quick autograph for someone in the audience and then stood there for a few seconds and took in the applause...and it was LOUD!!!
This woman was brilliant and I can't wait the opportunity to see the band again.
There's so much more to tell, but right now, I am just basking in the afterglow of this show...

- OK after basking in the afterglow of this performance long enough, I now have a decent opportunity to write this.
I arrived to the Fillmore about 20 minutes after the opening band went on. I am actually a bit sorry that I got there late because they sounded quite nice. They were called "Brookville"(sic). But as good as they sounded, the lead singer did say somethiing a bit "snooty". This is a cover tune, which we don't like to hear if we go to a show, but we thought we'd take a good song by a bad band and see what it sounds like played by a decent band. If any of you recognize this then you are too old to be here..." The audience laughs, the band began playing and I didn't recognize the song until I heard the first three words of the song "...how can I..." I looked at my ex and I said "oh my devils 'Pale Shelter'! Then I MUST be too old to be here according to this fool!". Regardless of the chip on his shoulder, they had a pretty cool sound. Sort of like Sade got into a melting pot with Simply Red and Aztec Camera. Sort of that late night small town vibe.
Goldfrapp went on at exactly 10:15. Alison came on in a black t-shirt, black wrap around mini-skirt with black trunks and black thigh high boots. Her hair looked pretty cool. It was blond but her hair line was dyed black and she had a black cap on at an angle. Through the entire performance she was constantly waving at the soundman, telling him to turn either her monitors up or other band members monitors up. The way she was waving at him and the amount of times she did it (at least twice per song. There were times she even walked over to talk to him, but a speaker was blocking my view so I couldn't see if she was aggrivated or not.), one wonders if he will still have a job by the end of the tour.
She does a lot more onstage than I thought she would. Every so often she would use two microphones during a song. One to sing through and one to sing into that had an arsenal of effects, like the flying saucer type sounds in "Lovely Head"...yeah...that was her! She sounded very Valkyrie-like with her wails. The crowd constantly yelled their approval, especially during "Utopia". My two favorite tunes of the night were "Deer Stop" and "Black Cherry".
If I was to describe Goldfrapp to someone, I'd have to say Portishead meets the Cocteau Twins after having the best sex of their lives. Alison Goldfrapp really has the best projection I have heard since Sade. I would say Liz Fraser, but I think Liz is much better in the studio than live. Beth Gibbons sounds great in the studio and on stage BUT she has no stage presence (her cigarettes have more presence than she does!). Alison has it all. Even the "ever-so-important in-today's-world" sex appeal (what she was doing with her little sound box during "Yes Sir" would make quite a few people blush!). If Maria Callas were alive today and had an interest in music outside of opera and classical, this is probably who she would listen to.
At the end of the show, she signed a quick autograph for someone in the crowd and then took in the massive applause she got. She said, jokingly "...no more...that's it...we have no more songs...Fuck!!!...I promise we will come back with more...!!!"
She'll be back...in saecula saeculorum...

- I just saw the band in SF at the Fillmore...WHOA!!! She was so incredible!
And she was loving the adoration she was getting from the crowd. They were
LOUD! I was fortunate enough to sneak in a MD recorder and capture my first
show by MD. I'm taking this to my grave! It is so beautiful and was such a
wonderful experience...
She did something REALLY sweet: she signed a very quick autograph at the very
ened of the show and then stood and took in the loud applause before saying
that the band had "no more...shit...we have to go...next time...we'll come back
with a bunch more songs..." Pretty sweet...
..Vincent (again)

- Wow, what a show. I picked up Felt Mountain sometime in 2001 and I was just amazed of how I felt listening to the album. I told myself if Goldfrapp comes to SF, I am going to see here. Goldfrapp was to come to SF in September 2001?but that did not happen because of 9/11 I think. I was told that they were going to reschedule...they did and I missed the concert by one day. To follow that bad luck, I visited Amsterdam in May of this year. When I was walking to my hotel, I saw a promotional concert poster stating that they played the night before?where is the luck? Anyway, I finally got the chance to see here play on Saturday night. That had to be one of my favorite concerts this year. Allison is so damn sexy?her voice?the way she moves?her outfit?damn sexy. See you next time.
