Reviews Thanks Chris for the scans

- When Goldfrapp came to Portsmouth it was glitter and glamour all round.
BBC Southampton's Abbie Collins watched Alison and co as they amazed the Wedgewood Rooms with their distinctive sound.
Having inexplicably changed venues from the Pyramids, the petite Alison Goldfrapp and her backing band made their entrance onto a stage stage was impressively decked out in glittery trees, various instruments and technical equipment.
Looking slightly less doll-like than usual in a teeny skirt and air hostess hat, she unleashed her incredible voice and the set got underway.
Alison gets sultry
It's not often that you go to a gig and hear a sound that matches the quality you'd hear on the album yet - Goldfrapp definitely achieves this. In actual fact, the sound was probably better. The array of gadgets onstage obviously weren't just for show and, with the help of some quirky effects, Alison's operatic voice reached unbelievable ear-piercing levels. The man next to me shook his head in disbelief as the high notes rang out around the audience.
There was no sign of Goldfrapp's other half, Will Gregory, unless he was weaving his magic behind the scenes. Nevertheless, the musicians backing Alison were undeniably talented - although maybe they were too good as I sometimes had the feeling that there was more on the backing track than we were led to believe. Where on earth they found a drummer that could also play the violin it don't know - but there he was decked out in true rock drummer style, leather cuffs, string vest and all.
The highlight of the gig for me was definitely, Lovely Head but it was their latest hit, Train that got the biggest cheer. This track kicked off a selection of more upbeat songs from the new album, Black Cherry that included Sexual Twist and Strict Machine.
Alison Goldfrapp
The only thing that marred Goldfrapp's performance was Alison's frosty persona. Perhaps she was a bit miffed that during the more mellow songs, you could clearly hear the audience at the back chatting amongst themselves or maybe it's just the kind of nonchalant attitude we've come to expect from her.
She was certainly annoyed that fans were calling out for them to play the title track from Black Cherry. After coming back onstage for an encore, she introduced the next song: "It isn't Black Cherry, it's something you'll probably hate." The song turned out to be an almost unrecognisable, darkly electronic cover of Baccara's disco classic, Yes Sir, I Can Boogie.
They left the stage once more before returning for yet another encore which seemed somewhat pretentious in my view. This time the fans got their way and Goldfrapp played Black Cherry. As the last note still resonated around the room, Alison said her thanks before adding, "I'm glad we pleased you all in the end."
