Title TWIST SINGLE

Text I had heard Goldfrapp before I received their single for the song ?Twist? (from their newest album Black Cherry), but, to be honest, I really couldn?t tell you if they were good or bad, if I liked them or not, or even compare them to anyone. But, after listening to this CD, I know one of their songs REALLY WELL.

Weighing in at only six songs, and featuring four different remixes of ?Twist?, Goldfrapp has infected my ears. Do I love the music? No, not really. Do I hate it? Nope. CAN I GET IT OUT OF MY HEAD?!? Again, no.

To be honest, the techno-pop that is this single is something that I would have wet myself over back in ?97. Kinda Lords of Acid, sorta The Crystal Method, the remixes by Jacques Lu Cont and Dimitri Tikovoi push into your brain with the rhythmic ?thump-thump-thump? that is late-'90s techno. And there is also a live version of ?Twist? that was performed in London. In all, the versions of ?Twist? are adequate. They are good for what they are, and serve their purpose solely and completely.

But the real gems on this disc is the non-?Twist? stuff. First, you?ve got the track ?Yes Sir?, which is eerily reminiscent of Madonna?s tune ?Music?. It?s not great, but the '80s sound effects and repetitive beat were enough to keep my foot tapping throughout the song. Track three, ?Deer Stop: Live At Somerset House? is the REAL reason to pick up this disc. Quiet and brooding, lead singer Alison Goldfrapp delivers a beautiful tune that is right up there with Beth Gibbons or Bjork. Stepping away from the synth sound, the tune is primarily orchestral, and features some amazing violin and piano melodies. Gorgeous, gorgeous work. I?d like to hear an entire album with that kind of vibe. And lastly, there is supposedly a short film with an interview on this disc, but it will not play in my computer or DVD player, so I couldn?t watch it. But I could hear it, and Alison talks about having sex behind dumpsters. Hot!

Would I have bought this single? Probably not. But, then again, I don?t buy CD singles anyway. Shit, I don?t buy CDs at all, come to think of it. You don?t have to buy stuff when you own a publication because you get it all for free! HAHAHA! Yeah, I?m a dick. A dick with free music.

In all seriousness, though, their website is FUCKED-UP. Naked people with animal faces and video footage of a girl violently shaking her breasts always makes for a good time.
