Text YOUR 60 SECONDS EXTRA STARTS HERE: Alison Goldfrapp is the sexy chanteuse of dance duo Goldfrapp. Along with partner Will Gregory, she has been such a smash with albums Felt Mountain and Black Cherry, and singles such as Strict Machine that the pair have been asked to re-mix Marilyn Manson's new tune. Their own latest single, Twist, is out next Monday, and they start their UK tour today.

You sound like you've just got up.
No - I've been up for hours actually. I'm moving house and it's a real nightmare. I'm supposed to be on holiday, but I've started to believe holidays don't exist any more.
Moving house - a product of the huge royalties cheques?
No - not really. I've bought a doll's house - it's minute. I'm not rich. I'm a bit of a hoarder though and I've been trying to throw things away, but that doesn't seem to be working. I have managed to arrange my collection of antlers around the room thou gh. I've got five pairs now.

That doesn't sound too PC.
It's probably not but, hey, they were dead. It's not as though I went out and killed them.

What's with all the half animal/ half human images?
Gosh - I've always been interested in the idea of metamorphosis. The mythology and the symbolism of animals is an ancient fascination. We'd like to be more animal-like, yet we want our animals to be more human. Wolves, to me, represent freedom and power, and in turn that represents sexuality - which is why we use them so much in the artwork.

METRO CAFÉ EXTRA: Are all these great reviews going to your head yet?
I don't read any press, so no. I should probably read them to try and massage my ego a little bit, shouldn't I? I really don't read any of it. I don't think it's very healthy to read either great things about you, or bad things. And the weird thing is, whenever you do look at something, you always end up reading the bad ones - the ones that slag you off. That just mortifies you, as you always remember the bad ones.

METRO CAFÉ EXTRA: Do you feel as sexy as everyone says you are?
If they could see me now in the middle of moving they wouldn't say that. I've got no stage gear on. I'm wearing a T-shirt and a knackered pair of jeans - but I suppose that could be sexy, couldn't it?

METRO CAFÉ EXTRA: Did you enjoy dressing up as a kid?
Yes - I've always loved it. It's part of how we like to do the whole thing. It's blurring the lines between fantasy and reality and is reflected in our music, the way we put it together, the artwork and everything we do.

METRO CAFÉ EXTRA: Should pop music be glamorous and mysterious?
Yes - but then again I like everything to be mysterious and glamorous.

What would you come back as?
A horse, maybe.

With a wolf's head?
Probably. I don't know why we started putting the wolf heads on men's bodies in the studio. When I write, I sketch things, cut things out of magazines and stick them on the wall and stuff. So it probably stems from there. The idea of a wolf lady came from being in LA, and all the weirdo people you meet there. It made me feel weird - how they want to know everything about you - what star sign you are and things.

What star sign are you?
Taurus. They seem to think they have some kind of power over you. They are a bunch of freaks and scare me.

It sounds like Alison In Wonderland.
Probably. I love stories and fairytales. They're all metaphors. I adore things that work on many levels.

Black Cherry is more sexual than Felt Mountain. Why?
Black Cherry is more direct with its sexuality. Felt Mountain is more ambiguous and possibly a littlemore cerebral.

Did something change in your life?
Oh yeah. Lots of things - I'll let you guess. Playing live helps as well - the new songs have more rhythm and I felt more comfortable. My personal life was, yes, changing dramatically, so I felt more confident. And I was having a lot of fun with it, so the new stuff is definitely more directly sexy.

What do you think of the 'Kraftwerk with a clitoris' epithet?
[Laughs]. Yeahhh. That's probably quite a good analogy. I always thought Kraftwerk needed moreclit action.

Last time I saw you, there were loads of blokes putting notes on the stage. What did they say?
I get that a lot - and from girls as well. I don't normally read them. I find that a bit scary - people putting phone numbers on stage and stuff.

What's the lowest thing you've done to flog a record?
We've not done any Saturday morning kids' shows yet. There is something else that I'm not going to tell you. It was pretty low of me and will come out when the single is released. I tried to cancel it actually but it's too f**king late. I get slightly paranoid about the press, if that helps. I don't understand how it works.

Is Will pissed off that you used your name for the band?
No - Will doesn't bother about all that s**t. He doesn't like being in videos, doesn't like being on stage particularly. But we were sitting around bandying names about and we thought of Gregory And Goldfrapp, but that just sounds like a solicitors' firm or a 1970s prog rock band. You can sit around for hours trying to think up the name of a band, so we just went with mine.
