Alison Goldfrapp's six-track mix
Love Is The Drug by Roxy Music: It has a great tune and a great lyric about love being the drug tat he wants. Grace Jones did a cover of this song as well. It's acoustic but it's got quite a rigid, almost electronic sound. It's quite angular sounding and a real tension to it. I think Bryan Ferry's great and this song is almost perfect.
Get It On by T.Rex: This is just a great, dirty, sexy, rock anthem. It still sounds fantastic now. I loved Marc Bolan when I was really little. I thought he was amazing. The music and the fashion was a big inspiration. All that glitter and glam - I love it.
Amore Come Dolore by Ennio Morricone: I'm not too keen on his Western stuff but Morricone also wrote great pop songs and other film stuff. This is one of his instrumentals. It's very beautifal, sombre and atmospheric.
U Got The Look by Prince (and Sheena Easton): Prince was a bloody genius. I don't like much of his later stuff but at his peak he wrote the most amazing pop songs - quirky, with brilliant musicianship. This is a great tune. I play it a lot when I DJ.
Ghost Tider by Suicide: It's off their first album, Suicide, which is very beautiful electronica. there's something very atmospheric and still about it. It's all electronic and it sounds great. The whole album's fantastic.
Expecting by Minnie Riperton: She was a singer who died tragically of breats cancer when she was about 30, sometime in the 1970s. She had the most amazing, soaring voice. I don't really know what the song's about and I don't really care; to be honest. It's just beautiful. |
